Traveling to India
- Travel to Madras/Chennai on the Southeast coast of India. This is the closest major airport.
Oneness University is a 90 km drive north of Chennai, in the state of Andra Pradesh.
- Make sure you have a valid passport with an expiry date that is not too soon (if you feel like staying longer in India), valid visa and tickets.
- It’s your own responsibility when booking your journey, to make sure that your ticket is changeable, in case the course you have applied for would change dates or be cancelled, even though this happens rarely.
- You can exchange money to INR (Indian rupees) when you arrive at the airport in Chennai, but the exchange rate is not so good. You can find better exchange rates in Chennai City during daytime, for example at Camera City, (close to Raj Park Hotel). There is also money exchanger at Spencer Plaza Shopping Mall at the Thomas Cook Office. Ask for some smaller bills also, as you might need this to tip your taxi driver, hotel staff, etc. You will not be able to use credit cards in Oneness University, only cash (Indian Rupees)
General Advice for traveling to India
If you want to do some shopping in Chennai before or after going to OnenessUniversity, Spencer Plaza is a good place for that. Spencer Plaza is a big shopping center with a little westernized standard where you can find just about everything. There is another shopping center call New City Center, a little smaller but also western style. Take a taxi or a rickshaw from your hotel and they will even wait for you if you want them to. If you want a taxi for the day in Chennai, ask Murugeshan and he will be happy to help you. Give a tip when you get service, maximum 100 rupees to the driver for a day.
Outside of Oneness University you should never drink or brush your teeth in water that’s not coming from a sealed water bottle. Eat only freshly cooked, warm food. Never eat cold dishes or things that have been standing outdoors and been exposed to the air, regardless of how appetizing and innocent it may look. These dishes can be potential bombs for your stomach!
